Internet and Networking Basics

Module Overview

In this module we will provide a brief overview of how the Internet works; basic terminology that goes with Internet and Networking and discuss the importance of protocols. We will go over the 7-layer OSI model for networks. You will utilize a network sniffer called "Wireshark" to capture the traffic in the network we are connected to in your lab assignments. 

Module Objectives

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate basic understanding and knowledge of the concept of Internet such as IP address, DNS, Network Layers, Protocols
  2. Utilize basic networking utilities in Windows such as ipconfig, ping, tracert
  3. Utilize the network sniffer Wireshark to capture and analyze  the network traffic.
